JAYA FOSS CLUB, JAYA ENIGNEERING COLLEGE Jaya Engineering College, affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and Approved by AICTE, New Delhi. Which is Accredited by National Board of Accreditation(NBA), AICTE, New Delhi. The College established in the year 1995 with the sprawling campus of 30 acres, in Prakash Nagar, Thiruninravur, Chennai. The location is well connected by both train and buses from the city. Jaya Engineering College, gives preference to the people who needy, poor and helpless rural students. There is an overwhelming demand for good technical and managerial talent which can play significant role in shaping the future of the country. We, at the Jaya Engineering College endeavour to inculcate necessary skills to transform students into full-fledged professionals through well-structured programs. The college offers 9 UG programmes which includes Aeronautical, Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, E&I, Textile Technology & Information Technology and Five P.G. programmes in M.E(Computer Science & Engg.), M.E(Applied Electronics), M.Tech ( Textile Technology), M.B.A and M.C.A. While the number of students opting for Computer Science and Information Technology Courses, galloping by leaps and bounds, the departments of CSE and IT have placed special emphasis in providing students an insight into the very latest hardware and software available in the industry. The department of CSE has 11 computer labs(including 2 FOSS Labs) with 750 computer. All the labs are connected with the network and provided Internet facility Our institution JAYA ENGINEERING COLLEGE has been a forerunner in pioneering the cause of FREE SOFTWARE AND OPEN SOURCE and its benefits. JAYA ENGINEERING COLLEGE has been in inception since 1995 and has been constantly serving the student fraternity. Jaya FOSS Club (JFC) has been formed with the motive of embracing people into the Free Software / Open Source fraternity. We aim to accomplish this by organizing a stratum of programs targeting various aspects. We aim to achieve all our goals with support from various GNU/Linux user groups as well as students and their earnest efforts. JFC aims to leave a mark for the student generations to come, which in turn shall carry on the legacy of FOSS. We have been actively involved with INDIAN GNU/LINUX USER GROUP- Chennai and dedicatedly conducting programs to motivate and encourage one and all to embrace the free software fraternity. We in association with NRC-FOSS (National resource Council for Free and open Source Software) conducted an exhibition during the year 2006 which exhibited several Free Software tools available and also included several project(done using free software) demonstrations.
